Registered Agent Service
A North Carolina registered agent who answers
$147 a year
No setup fee, no upsells, no renewal surprises.
Every LLC and corporation registered in North Carolina must name a registered agent with a physical street address in the state. We are that address, in Franklin, and a person here reads what arrives.
What a registered agent actually does
It is a legal requirement, not a service you opt into. The state needs a reliable way to reach your business.
Accepts service of process
If your business is sued or subpoenaed, the papers come to your registered agent. Missing them is how a company loses a case it never knew about.
Receives official state mail
Notices from the North Carolina Secretary of State arrive here, get scanned, and reach you the same business day.
Keeps your address private
Your registered agent address is public record. If you are your own agent, that is your home address, searchable by anyone.
What $147 includes
- Registered agent of record in North Carolina
- Legal documents scanned and forwarded the same business day
- Your home address off the public record
- A courtesy reminder before your April 15 annual report deadline
- A person in Franklin, North Carolina, not a ticket queue
What it does not include
- Filing your annual report. That stays with you. We send the reminder.
- Forming your LLC or corporation.
- Legal advice. We are not a law firm.
We would rather tell you this up front than have you find out in April.
Switching takes about ten minutes
Changing your registered agent in North Carolina is simple and does not affect your business standing.
1
Tell us you want to switch. We send back everything you need, including our consent as your new agent.
2
File the change with the North Carolina Secretary of State, using the registered office address exactly as we send it, with no box number. The state fee is $5. Online takes 3 to 5 business days, by mail 7 to 10.
3
That is it. Legal and state mail starts arriving here, and you stop worrying about being home for the mail carrier.
If your current agent has resigned, do not wait. North Carolina will administratively dissolve an entity that goes more than 60 days without a registered agent.
Why not one of the national services
Many of them route mail through a central facility and then send it on, which adds days before anyone opens it. For a lawsuit with a response deadline, days matter. Mail addressed to you arrives at our address and is handled here.
The other pattern is the introductory rate that climbs at renewal, plus compliance add-ons you did not ask for. Our price is $147 a year, with no introductory rate that jumps later and no add-ons to buy. If it ever changes, you get thirty days’ notice first.
If you also need a street address for the business itself, registered agent service is included with our Business Premium plan. See the plans.
Questions people ask
Can I be my own registered agent?
Yes, if you have a physical North Carolina street address and can be there during business hours. Two things to weigh. That address becomes public record, and process servers arrive without warning, sometimes in front of customers or family.
Do you file my annual report?
No. Your North Carolina annual report remains your responsibility. As your registered agent we send a courtesy reminder ahead of your April 15 deadline, but filing the report itself is not part of registered agent service.
Will switching affect my business standing?
No. Switching your registered agent in North Carolina is routine and will not affect your legal standing. One caution: North Carolina will administratively dissolve an entity that goes more than 60 days without a registered agent, so file the change promptly.
What happens if my business gets sued?
We accept the documents, log them, scan them and get them to you the same business day. The originals are forwarded to you. What we do not do is give you legal advice, and a response deadline starts running from service, so call your attorney first.
What address do I put on my state filing?
Use the registered office address we send you when you sign up, entered exactly as written. Do not add a box or suite number. If you also have a mailbox plan, your box number belongs on your mailing address only, not in the registered agent section.
Do I need to live near Franklin?
No. Your registered agent has to be in North Carolina. You do not. We serve businesses across the state and owners who live well outside it, and nothing about signing up requires a visit.
I have more than one LLC. Is $147 per company?
Yes, $147 a year for each entity. Every one is a separate filing with the state, its own consent to appointment, and its own annual report reminder, so each is priced on its own. If you have more than three, write to us. There is usually a sensible arrangement, and we would rather talk it through than guess at a number on a web page.
Does this give me a business address too?
No, these are two separate services. Registered agent covers legal notices and official state mail, nothing else. If you also want a street address for invoices, your bank, Stripe, Amazon or Etsy, that is a mailbox plan. Registered agent is included with Business Premium, or you can add it to any plan.
